Notes from SBTS Chapel
Wisdom from Above
Fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. We over-accentuate the eminence of God and obscure the transcendence of God which diminishes our fear of God and therefore wisdom. Wisdom is something you ask for. And to ask God, this humbles us. It is not the acquisition of knowledge. It is a meekness, gentleness, kindness.
Knowledge is not the same as wisdom. False wisdom is not just a bad idea, it’s source is earthly, unspiritual, and demonic. The result for worldly wisdom is disorder, confusion and every vile practice.
We must reveal the eminence of God with transcendence of God in our preaching. If we want to see our congregation bear the fruit of wisdom in their lives, we must help them to fear the Lord correctly.
